The South of South Tyrol

Both landscape an culture in this area, called Unterland are strongly influenced by wine-growing and all impotant business matters are agreed upon over a "Glasl" of wine. Here the cimatic influence from the south is strongest, resulting in an opulent choice of fruit (from apples to peaches) and wine varieties ranging from cool climate with grapes grown in high vineyards, to Bordeaux varieties from the lower slopes. The spicy Gewürztraminer wine is a speciality. It is now grown and loved all over the world, though the grape derivedits name from Tramin, a village on the South Tyrolean wine route (Weinstrasse) which cuts through Unterland. You can spoil yourself in the many vine cellars as well as in the numerous stately homes and castles.
