Eisacktal – Wipptal

This is the historic north-south route between Italy and northern Europe. Its towns and villages have benefitted from this factor through the milleniums: Sterzing, a commercial base of the powerful Fugger family in late medieval times; Brixen, the bishopric town and Klausen, famous as a residence for artists. Away from the transit route between Bozen and Brenner, Eisacktal´s small side valleys are loved for their original centuries-old farmhouses perched on the steep mountainsides, and their scattered mountain villages and hamlets.
